Arrests in Somali sex trafficking ring in US, person familiar with case tells AP

Monday, November 08, 2010
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A person with knowledge of the case says authorities have made arrests in a Somali-run sex trafficking ring in Minnesota and Tennessee.

Details are expected to be announced at an 11 a.m. (1600 GMT) Monday news conference in Tennessee.

The person tells The Associated Press the arrests are connected to a large sex ring described in court documents briefly unsealed in September.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the person wasn't authorized to talk ahead of the official announcement.
Those documents said a 15-year-old girl was being controlled by Somali gangs and promoted into prostitution.

Tennessee U.S. Attorney Jerry Martin and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton are holding the news conference in Nashville.
